SSU shuts down new conscription evasion schemes: suspects include military enlistment official who ‘sold’ student cards
The SSU has exposed another five mobilization evasion schemes.
In Ternopil region:
The SSU Military Counterintelligence detained an official of the district military enlistment office who offered evaders to ‘dodge’ mobilization by entering one of the local higher education institutions.
To arrange that, he promised the ‘clients’ to use his connections in educational institutions.
The official charged USD 2,000 per person liable for military service.
In Ivano-Frankivsk region:
Two residents were apprehended for transporting draft evaders to the EU states on ATVs through the so-called ‘green border’ in the Carpathian forests.
In Rivne region:
The SSU shut down a corrupt scheme, which allowed potential conscripts to leave Ukraine as ‘managers of a Ukrainian agricultural holding’.
The formal pretext for foreign ‘business trips’ was ‘solving issues with foreign business partners on grain supplies’.
In Zakarpattia region:
Two residents of Uzhhorod district were detained for leading draft evaders along forest paths across the border.
In Mykolaiv:
a local resident was served a notice of suspicion for trying to bribe a senior military commissariat officer in order to evade mobilization.
However, the Ukrainian officer immediately reported the ‘offer’ to his superiors. The suspect’s criminal actions were then documented and he was detained.
Investigations are ongoing.
The suspects are facing up to 9 years in prison.
The operations were carried out jointly with the National Police and the State Border Guard Service under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
