SSU shuts down crypto mining farm that stole electricity in front-line territories in eastern Ukraine
The SSU has dismantled a clandestine crypto currency mining center in Kharkiv region, which monthly stole industrial volumes of state electricity worth hundreds of thousands of hryvnias.
Besides, systematic overloading of utility networks could have led to serious interruptions in energy supply to residential areas and critical infrastructure facilities near the frontline.
According to the investigation, several local residents installed specialized equipment in a rented warehouse near Kharkiv and created this crypto currency mining farm.
To generate electronic money, they used large volumes of unaccounted electricity obtained through unauthorized connection to the grid.
During the searches, the law enforcement seized computers and specialized equipment with evidence of unlawful activity.
The investigators will notify the organizers of illegal business of suspicion. The court is to decide on a preventive measure.
The pre-trial investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Cyber Security Department together with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Kyiv Holosiiv District Prosecutor’s Office.
