SSU shuts down another 3 draft evasion schemes: official of military medical commission among detainees
The SSU has detected another three mobilization evasion schemes used by men of conscription age to illegally leave Ukraine. As a result of operations in different regions of Ukraine, organizers of the schemes were detained.
The offenders include an official of a district military medical commission and an owner of a fake shipping company.
For money, they offered draft evaders to leave Ukraine using fake documents or crossing the border outside checkpoints.
The cost of ‘services’ reached USD 10,000, depending on the urgency of departure and the way of the illegal crossing.
In Lviv region:
The SSU military counterintelligence detained red-handed a surgeon who was a member of the district military medical commission.
He tried to get a bribe for signing a forged medical note with a severe disease for a potential conscript.
It was established that using false medical records, doctor’s accomplices from the military medical commission prepared fake certificates of unfitness for military service.
The draft evaders planned to use the forgeries to illegally leave Ukraine.
In Odesa region:
An offender who set up a channel for the illegal migration of potential conscripts to the EU through the territory of unrecognized Transnistria was detained.
To smuggle draft evaders abroad, the organizer drove them through a prepared route outside checkpoints.
According to the investigation, the offender coordinated criminal actions with his foreign accomplice, who searched for customers through a specially created Telegram channel.
The money for the "trip" was transferred to e-wallets.
In addition, for an "extra" payment, they promised the evaders their assistance in "legalization" in the European Union.
In Zakarpattia region:
A businessman who smuggled draft evaders outside Ukraine as drivers of international cargo transport was detained.
To implement the "scheme," the organizer registered a transport company using a fictitious identity.
A fake driver entered the EU and left the car, which was driven back to Ukraine by a relative of the suspect.
The investigations are ongoing under two articles of the CCU:
- Art. 332 (illegal transportation of persons across the state border)
- Art. 368 (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official).
The detainees are facing 10 years in prison.
The operations were carried out under the procedural supervision of Lviv, Odesa and Zakarpattia region Prosecutor’s Offices.
