SSU dismantles criminal group forging over 1,000 COVID vaccination certificates

The SSU exposed a group of criminals who issued and sold fake COVID-19 vaccination certificates. According to preliminary data, the fraudsters have issued over 1,000 fakes.

The scheme was organized by two residents of Kyiv, who involved doctors working in Darnytskyi district. The medics entered false information into the eHealth electronic system, from which data is transferred to the Diia app.

Pseudo-vaccination cost UAH 3,000 (USD 110). ‘Clients’ paid for each dose of vaccine to receive a relevant certificate. Moreover, the doctors followed the intervals between doses recommended by the Ministry of Health.

The SSU detained the offenders red-handed after receiving a payment for fake vaccination certificates.

The searches led to the seizure of:

  • records with a list of ‘clients’ with fake certificates,
  • vaccination memos and personal medical files,
  • electronic devices with evidence of illegal activity,
  • UAH 1.2 m (USD 44,000) and USD 16,000 in cash.

The offenders are to be notified of suspicion of fraud and forgery.

The SSU carried out the operation under the supervision of Kyiv Podolskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
