SSU cracks down on supply of low-quality electrical equipment for Ukrzaliznytsia
The SSU exposed another corruption scheme in Ukrzaliznytsia JSC. The perpetrators embezzled the funds allocated for the repairing of train locomotives.
According to the investigation, low-quality foreign-made component parts were supplied through commercial entities.
Then, the perpetrators made electronic components under the guise of their own high-tech production with forged documents and quality certificates.
Ukrzaliznytsia JSC installed the components on traction rolling stock, and that caused regular emergencies, including ignition of electrical equipment of trains.
The state losses are preliminary estimated at UAH 1.7 m (USD 63,700). This is only the part of the funds that the perpetrators planned to embezzle, according to the signed agreement.
Law enforcement officers prevented another embezzlement of UAH 1.1 m (USD 41,200) budget funds allocated for components of dubious quality.
A former CEO of the supplier entity and a manager of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC were served the suspicion notices of embezzlement and forgery in office.
A type of detention is to be chosen.
The operation was carried out by the SSU CI Protection of the State's Interests in the Field of Economic Security jointly with investigators of the National Police and under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office.
