SSU dismantles another three draft evasion schemes
The SSU has blocked another three mobilization evasion schemes in Ukraine’s central and western regions.
Apart from that, following the SSU’s investigation, the court has sentenced one of the organizers of illegal departure of conscripts abroad to prison.
The convicted offender was the head of a district social protection unit in the Humanitarian Policy Department of Lviv City Council.
For money, she helped draft evaders leave Ukraine using fake certificates of unfitness for military service. The official involved accomplices from the local medical and social expert commission into the scheme.
The law enforcement detained the suspect ‘red-handed’ in August 2022 after she handed over fake documents to a client.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found the accused guilty under Article 332.3 of the CCU (illegal transfer of persons across Ukraine’s state border) and sentenced to 7 years in prison.
In Cherkasy oblast and Khmelnytskyi, the SSU Military Counterintelligence detained two organizers of draft evasion schemes.
The two suspected women offered assistance to persons liable for military service in evading conscription and fleeing to the EU using fake documents about their ‘poor’ health.
The cost of ‘services’ ranged from USD 4,000 to 10,000.
In Khmelnytskyi:
an employee of a local pharmacy was apprehended: during everyday conversations with customers, she was looking for people wanting to evade mobilization.
After finding a ‘client’, she turned to her ex-husband, who worked in the regional military enlistment office and counterfeited documents for the evaders.
In Cherkasy region:
A former employee of a local hospital in Horodyshche was detained for selling fake medical certificates of unfitness for service. She engaged her ex-colleagues from the military medical commission to issue the fake papers.
The investigations of the two cases are ongoing.
The activities to expose the schemes were conducted jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
