In Chernihiv region, the SBU blocked illegal mining of minerals for more than UAH 19 m (USD 670,000).

The operatives established that a head of a state peat extraction company issued illegal orders for peat extraction. There was no extraction permit. In addition, the land itself was not on the account of the enterprise.

According to the experts, more than 70,000 tons of peat were illegally extracted due to the official’s actions. The offender was served a notice of suspicion of violation of the rules related to the protection of mineral resources. 

The operation was conducted jointly with the investigators of the National Police of Ukraine under supervision of Chernihiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
