Kirovohrad region: SBU exposes mayoral candidate on election law violation

On the eve of local council elections, SBU officers exposed and detained a candidate for mayor position of Svitlovodsk city on violating the election law.

Allegedly, a deputy of Kirovohrad Regional Council jointly with his assistant planned to find a fake candidate and to mislead the voters.

In order to reduce the number of contestant’s votes, the “candidate” with the same second name had to run for election.

The assistant was responsible for bribery of the potential fake candidate.

Both offenders were detained in accordance with Art.208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine after giving the bribe (USD 350).

The issue of serving a notice of suspicion of  bribery of  the voter, the participant of a referendum.

The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was conducted jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.
