Volyn region: SSU cracks down on fake COVID-certificates scheme
The SSU cracked down on international COVID vaccination certificates fraud.
The scam was organized by a software engineer of one of the health facilities in Volyn region. The offender used a doctor digital signature in order to get access to the eHealth system and printed certificate forms in his office. He searched for clients among patients or online.
The price for an international COVID vaccination certificate with entering data into the electronic system was UAH 2000 (USD 75), an unrecorded certificate cost UAH 1500 (USD 56).
The offender entered data of about 50 fake vaccination certificates of citizens of Volyn region into the system.
The SSU identified the names of all citizens who used offender’s illegal services. Their data will be deleted from the system.
The investigation into fraud is still ongoing to identify and bring to justice all the individuals involved.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Volyn region under the coordination of the Main Department of CI Protection of the State`s Interests in the Field of Economic Security jointly with the National police under the supervision of the Prosecutor`s Office in Volyn region.
