SSU neutralizes russian hackers’ attempt to penetrate computer networks of apartment buildings
The SSU Cyber Department has neutralized a russian hacker attack on electronic systems of housing infrastructure in one of the border regions of Ukraine.
The hackers wanted to remotely connect to the video surveillance system of residential complexes, adjacent roads, etc. via the Wi-Fi network of apartment buildings. In this way, they planned to arrange a covert channel to collect information on the situation in the city.
The aggressor was also interested in the addresses of Ukrainian law enforcement officers and intelligence on movement of military equipment.
However, the SSU was ahead of the curve and timely exposed the occupiers’ attempt to conduct reconnaissance and subversive activities in the border region.
According to intelligence, the cyberattack was carried out by a russian hacker group controlled by the special services of the aggressor state. The group specializes in hacking into electronic systems of infrastructure facilities.
The SSU warns that such enemy attacks may occur in the future. We urge citizens to be alert, pay more attention to the security of your computer networks, use complex passwords and change them periodically.
The decision to open criminal proceedings under Article 361 of the CCU (unauthorized interference in the operation of information (automated), electronic communication, information and communication systems, electronic communication networks) is pending.
The efforts to establish all the circumstances of the offence and bring the perpetrators to justice are underway.
Please, stay vigilant and immediately report any suspicious incidents to competent authorities of our country.
