SSU dismantles criminal group that terrorized residents of frontline Donetsk region

The SSU has neutralized a crime ring that tried to keep residents of Donetsk oblast in fear. As a result of a special operation, the gang leader, a recidivist, has been detained.

The gangsters terrorized population of frontline cities, imposing ‘tribute’ on businessmen and organizing robberies.

The investigation documented how the crime boss had tried to extort half a million dollars from an owner of a private medical facility.

If the criminal received the full amount, he planned to kill the victim and bury his body in a forest outside the city.

The extortionist engaged two gang members to commit the crime.

To prepare a robbery attack on the businessman, they were following him for a long time, studying his daily routine, travel routes and circle of friends.

The gang planned to abduct the victim and take him out of town in a trunk of a car, where they prepared a ‘grave’ for him.

The SSU apprehended the perpetrators during an attempt to kidnap the man near his apartment.

During the searches, the following was seized from the suspects:

  • F-1 and RGD-5 grenades, a Kalashnikov rifle, a Makarov pistol;
  • balaclavas, a shovel, gloves, tape and ties, which the criminals prepared for the robbery and murder;
  • mobile phones with evidence.

The leader of the criminal group was served a notice of suspicion under Article 187.4 of the CCU (robbery, committed by an organized group, under martial law).

The suspect is in custody. The investigation is underway to bring to justice all those involved in the unlawful activity.

The suspects face up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
