SBU: USD 1 m per year illegal enrollment of foreign students at medical universities

The SBU documented an illegal mechanism of enrolling foreign students at a private Ukrainian medical university worth USD 3,000. Every year more than 300 foreigners were enrolled.

SBU officers established that the offenders conspired with officials of a state education enterprise. The structure provides support for foreign applicants in different regions of the country. Enrollment at a medical college cost an average of USD 3,000 without mandatory submission of relevant documents and exams.

Law enforcement officers conducted authorized searches of offices of the state enterprise and one of the universities with temporary access to documents proving illegal enrollment of applicants.

During investigative actions, the offenders attempted to destroy documents that could be used in court.

The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Main Department of Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Interests in the Sphere of Economic Security under the supervision of the Solomianskyi District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv.
