SSU inquiry of LNR militant who defected from terrorists to Ukrainian military

SSU officers jointly with the Armed Forces servicemen detained a so called LNR militant near the contact line. Armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and wearing a flak jacket, he went to the Ukrainian military position near the village of Popasna in Luhansk region.

The militant is a former resident of Popasna. In 2014, he came to the temporarily occupied territory with his father, who was an active IAF member.

In 2016, the young man signed a contract with the so-called 6th Separate Motorized Rifle Cossack Regiment named after Ataman Platov of the LNR People's police.

He served in various positions and took part in armed resistance to ATO/JFO units.

The militant testified to the SSU investigators. According to him, he was disappointed in the ideas of the terrorist organization and decided to return to his hometown. He had no other option but to run away during the shift.

SSU investigators served the detainee a suspicion notice of the participation in unlawful armed formations.

The suspect was remanded in custody. The pre-trial investigation is underway.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Military CI Department jointly with SSU Main Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under the supervision of the Luhansk Region Prosecutor's Office.
