SSU inspects monastery of moscow patriarchate’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Zakarpattia, where nuns called for ‘awakening of mother Rus’

The SSU has completed counterintelligence (security) measures on the territory of the St. Cyril and Methodius Convent of Mukachevo Diocese of the UOC-MP in Zakarpattia.

Over 20 persons underwent in-depth counterintelligence interviews, including with the use of a polygraph.

As a result of these measures, the SSU found a large number of propaganda material. Most of the literature was written by russian authors and published by russian printing houses.

The items found include books of xenophobic content with offensive fabrications about other nationalities and religions. The uncovered brochures deny Ukraine’s right to independence and emphasize that russia, Ukraine and belarus ‘cannot be divided.’

Despite the ban of the head of the diocese, the monastery continued to mention during prayers the patriarch of the russian orthodox church kirill hundyaev, who ‘blessed’ the russian military to kill Ukrainians. They even prepared a ‘memo’ to explain why it is impossible to refuse to mention the moscow patriarch. In case of disobedience, clergymen had to be ‘removed from all priesthood’.

The SSU also found the lyrics of pro-russian songs that glorified the ‘russian land’ and called for ‘awakening of mother Rus’.

All material will be sent for expert examinations.

The security measures were carried out in accordance with the law.

We emphasize that in its activities the SSU adheres to the principle of impartiality to any religious denomination and respects the right of every citizen to freedom of worldview and religion, as defined by the Constitution of Ukraine.
