The SBU exposed large-scale misappropriations of budget funds by a winning bidder, awarded of the maintenance and repairs contract with a local state administration.

The SBU documented that the contractor failed to comply with the terms of the contract. Instead of performing their works properly, the perpetrators were laundering state money using bogus firms.

The unlawful scheme was possible due to a lack of supervision by local officials and technical control organization.

During the searches, the SBU seized financial and economic documents, more than UAH 1 m. (USD 37,500) in cash, company seals, bankcards and other evidence proving the illegal activity.

Three persons, including the local official, were served notices of suspicion of misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion or property by malversation.  

The operation was carried out by the SBU Main Directorate of Counterintelligence Protection of the State Interests in the field of Economic Security jointly with Solomianskyi District Police Department in Kyiv City under the supervision of the Solomianskyi District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv City.
