SBU suspects management of Kryvyi Rih International Airport of millions of state losses
In Dnipropetrovsk region, the SBU exposed a scheme of misappropriation of public funds, allocated for overhaul of the Kryvyi Rih International Airport.
Allegedly, the airport management set up a mechanism to transfer the budget money provided for the reconstruction of the facilities into non-observed economy. For that purpose, the organizers involved subsidiary companies and a design contractor in the overhaul. The SBU officers established that the offenders deliberately overcharged building materials and contractors’ services.
According to commodity, construction and forensic economic inspections, illegal activity caused more than UAH 5.3 m (USD186342) state losses.
During authorized searches of the airport premises, offices of commercial structures, law enforcement officers seized documents and secret ledgers proving the illegal activity.
A head of the international airport received a suspicion notice for embezzlement.
Investigative actions are underway to establish all the circumstances of the offense and prosecute other involved individuals.
The operation was conducted under the legal supervision of the Kryvyi Rih Prosecutor's Office.
