Luhansk region: SBU suspects mayor of bribery

The SBU exposed a head of a City Council in Luhansk region, who jointly with his deputy extorted money from a commercial director of a private company.

The SBU officers established that they demanded money from the owner of the company that repairs infrastructure facilities. For this, the officials promised the businessman victory in open bidding and quick payment for services under two other agreements.

On October 16, law enforcement officers detained the deputy mayor in his office on taking all amount of a bribe, according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine.

The both suspects received notices of suspicion. The issue of choosing them types of detention is being settled.

The investigation is ongoing to establish all circumstances of illegal activities and other involved persons, within the criminal proceedings initiated for taking a bribe.

The operation was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Luhansk Region Prosecutor's Office.
