SBU prevents illegal export of valuable timber to EU

The SBU blocked the illegal large-scale export of valuable timber to an EU country.

Allegedly, a private company from Cherkasy region organized the illegal scheme. Law enforcement established that the company’s owner signed a EUR 300,000 contract with a foreign company for the supply of broadleaf wood lumber. The offender planned to export goods under the guise of other types of wood. In order to legalize the shipment of the materials, the woman entered false information into the customs documentation.

SBU officers detained a vehicle with wood during the registration of cargo at the Cherkasy-Central post of the Kyiv customs. During the inspection of the truck, the SBU found valuable timber, hidden under the declared materials.

SBU investigators initiated proceedings upon the fact of smuggling. The issue of serving the offender a suspicion notice is currently being resolved.

Investigation is ongoing to identify and prosecute all persons involved in the illegal activity.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Cherkasy Region Prosecutor's Office.
