SSU strengthens cooperation with agencies to counter cyber threats

The SSU supports strengthening of cooperation between all agencies that respond to cyber threats in Ukraine.

This was the main message in the briefing of Andriy Svintsytskyi, Director of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Special Equipment and Forensics of the SSU, at the international conference Countering Cyber Threats in the Modern Security Environment: Theory and Practice organized together with the National Cyber Security Coordination Centre at the NSDC.

‘The Security Service of Ukraine is ready to become a platform for sharing expertise and achievements in cyber security. In the hybrid warfare environment, consolidation of efforts of security community will reinforce our defence potential in this area,’ Andriy Svintsytskyi underscored.

The state authorities should boost cooperation to implement the existing legislation. ‘The laws and by-laws currently in force in the area of cyber security should not be declarative. Instead, they should serve as the basis for taking specific steps,’ Andriy Svintsytskyi explained.

In August 2021, the President endorsed the new Cyber Security Strategy of Ukraine.

The SSU systematically defends Ukrainian cyber space. Since the beginning of 2021, the SSU has shut down 12 bot farms with a total 65,000 accounts. The farms were spreading anti-Ukrainian, anti-vaccination and other destructive content in social media.

Over 1200 cyber-attacks and cyber incidents against critical infrastructure were contained. The SSU operations in protection of the state’s cyber security led to 427 criminal proceedings. 62 criminals have been brought to criminal responsibility.
