SSU adds new charge for head of Bucha Territorial Recruitment Center who set up mobilization evasion schemes
The SSU has uncovered new evidence of corrupt activities of the head of Bucha Territorial Сenter for Recruitment and Social Support. With the assistance of the Ministry of Defense and the Ground Forces Command, he was detained in August this year on suspicion of organizing schemes for draft evaders.
According to the investigation, the official, along with two accomplices, offered men to evade mobilization using fictitious conclusions of the military medical commission on their ‘poor health’.
During the searches of the suspects’ homes and cars, over USD 1.2 mln was found.
Almost half of this amount was found in specially equipped caches under the floor and behind the wall paneling in the house of the Bucha TRC official.
After his detention, the court decided to release him on bail of UAH 1 mln (USD 24,000).
However, immediately after the bail was paid, SSU investigators notified the official of a new suspicion, which prevented his release.
According to the SSU Military Counterintelligence, his criminal actions are qualified under Article 368-5 of the CCU (illicit enrichment).
The court has chosen custody as a measure of restraint with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 18 mln.
The investigation is ongoing. The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison.
Earlier, SSU investigators notified the detainee and his two accomplices of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 114-1.1 (obstructing the lawful activities of the AFU and other military formations);
- 369.3 (unlawful benefit given to an official holding a responsible position, upon prior conspiracy, by a group of persons).
In total, over 30 searches were carried out, which resulted in the seizure of unregistered weapons, ammunition, fake documents of Territorial Recruitment Centers and medical commissions for dozens of draft evaders.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
