SSU declares russian general suspect: he participated in seizure and occupation of right-bank Kherson region
The SSU has collected evidence against another high-ranking russian official involved in mass repressions during the occupation of the right-bank part of Kherson.
The person under investigation is russian colonel-general Igor Turchenyuk, commander of the South grouping of the russian guard.
At the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion, his units took part in the seizure of the right-bank part of Kherson region.
During the occupation, Turchenyuk commanded the so-called filtration groups, which persecuted members of the resistance movement.
On his orders, his subordinates attacked protesters who opposed russia’s armed aggression.
During the dispersal of peaceful assemblies, the occupiers abducted people and took them to torture chambers.
The russian guard units, under Turchenyuk’s supervision, were on duty at checkpoints, where they stopped and ‘confiscated’ cars of residents who wanted to leave for Ukraine-controlled territory.
They also stole documents, money, mobile phones and other personal belongings from the owners and passengers of the vehicles.
On the eve of Kherson’s liberation, the occupiers’ units under Turchenyuk fled to the left bank, where they continue to commit war crimes.
For this, Viktor Zolotov, putin’s former bodyguard and now the head of the russian guard, awarded his subordinate’s grouping with the Order of Zhukov.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators have notified Turchenyuk of suspicion in absentia under Articles 28.2, 437.2 of the CCU (planning, preparation, unleashing and waging an aggressive war, upon prior conspiracy, by a group).
The criminal is in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. Efforts to find and bring him to justice are underway.
The investigation was conducted by the SSU Office in Kherson region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
