SSU investigates russian guard general: he commanded dispersal of peaceful protests during Kherson occupation

The SSU has collected evidence against another russian war criminal involved in mass repressions against civilians during the occupation of Kherson region.

This is lieutenant general Vladimir Spiridonov, commander of the Ural district of the russian guard.

At the beginning of the full-scale war, the official took part in the seizure of Kherson oblast and attempts to suppress the resistance movement.

During the dispersal of peaceful protests in downtown Kherson and other occupied districts, the occupiers detained and imprisoned several hundred participants in jails.

For this purpose, the official used four tactical groups, a special forces squad and an operational unit of the Southern district of the russian guard, where he was deputy commander at the time.

In the prisons, the victims were subjected to numerous forms of torture as the ruscists were trying to break down the  resistance to the kremlin regime.

Before the right bank of Kherson region was liberated, Spiridonov organized transfer of subordinate russian guard units to the left bank. He himself fled to russia and was later promoted.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified Spiridonov of suspicion in absentia under Articles 28.2, 437.2 of the CCU (planning, preparation, unleashing and waging an aggressive war, upon prior conspiracy, by a group).

Efforts to bring the russian war criminal to justice are ongoing.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kherson region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
