SSU serves notice of suspicion to head of russian investigative committee, who facilitates mass repressions in occupied regions of Ukraine

The SSU continues to expose crimes of russian officials involved in unleashing and waging the war against Ukraine.

As a result of the investigation, the SSU has collected a wide array of evidence against the head of russia’s Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin. The investigators have documented his activities aimed at introducing the occupation regime in the temporarily occupied areas of southern and eastern Ukraine.

The official is fulfilling the task of russia’s highest military and political leadership to suppress the resistance movement in Ukraine.

Bastrykin publicly justifies russia’ armed aggression and seizure of parts of eastern and southern Ukraine. The suspect has repeatedly stated this during his appearances on russian TV channels.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified the head of russia’s Investigative Committee of suspicion of crimes under the Articles of the CCU:

  • 110.2 (intentional actions with the aim of changing the borders of Ukraine’s territory in violation of the procedure established by the Constitution of Ukraine, by a representative of authorities);
  • 436-2.3 (justification, recognition of legitimacy of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, which began in 2014, including by presenting russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine as an internal civil conflict, and recognition of legitimacy of the temporary occupation of part of Ukraine’s territory, committed by an official, using the media);
  • 436-2.3 (denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, which began in 2014, including by presenting russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine as an internal civil conflict, and denial of the temporary occupation of part of Ukraine’s territory, committed by an official, repeatedly).

The SSU Main Investigation Department carried out the investigation under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
