SSU declares captain of russian vessel suspect for bringing enemy’s military equipment from Syria to Ukraine

The SSU has documented criminal actions of the captain of the russian cargo vessel Sparta IV, Oleksiy Tereshchenko, who is involved in the war of aggression against Ukraine.

Tereshchenko helped to transfer military equipment of russian troops from Syria to the temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine.

The enemy used civilian vessels of the russian merchant fleet to covertly transport the military ‘cargo’.

The investigation established that from 25 February to 7 March 2023 a bulk carrier led by Tereshchenko illegally transported a batch of military equipment to Novorossiysk from russia’s military base in Tartus, Syria.

The equipment included:

  • 2 russian Pantsir-S1 missile systems;
  • 11 Ural-4320 vehicles with trailers;
  • 200 unguided rockets for multiple launch rocket systems.

Later, the enemy equipment was delivered to the temporarily occupied Crimea for use by russian occupation troops on the southern front.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators have notified Tereshchenko of suspicion under Articles 27.5, 437.2 of the CCU (planning, preparation, unleashing and waging of an aggressive war).

The suspect is in russia. Comprehensive efforts are underway to bring him to justice for crimes against Ukraine. The offender is facing up to 15 years in prison.

The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
