SSU declares former chief of Yanukovych’s security suspect
The SSU has collected evidence against another former top official, who is hiding from justice in russia.
The suspect is Vyacheslav Zanevsky, former head of security for fugitive president Viktor Yanukovych.
After the seizure of Kherson and part of Mykolaiv region, Zanevsky helped invaders spread the kremlin’s regime and suppress the resistance movement.
According to the investigation, in July 2022 Zanevsky was contacted by his son, who is serving in russian occupation troops in the temporarily captured part of southern Ukraine.
The latter asked his father to assist russian punitive authorities in identifying local Ukrainian patriots, including ATO participants and veterans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In response, Zanevsky put his son in touch with two of his acquaintances - heads of the aggressor’s ‘ministry of interior’ and ‘state security service’ in the temporarily occupied Kherson region.
They subsequently passed locals’ personal data to the occupiers and facilitated the abduction of people.
Zanevsky also advised russian military units on tactics of warfare against Ukrainian Defence Forces.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified Zanevsky of suspicion under Article 111-2.1 of the CCU (aiding the aggressor state).
The SSU is acting to hold the offender to account.
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
