Kyiv blogger under investigation for preparing fakes for kremlin media outlets
The SSU has collected evidence against a Kyiv blogger who positioned himself as a ‘political expert’ and spread fakes about the war in Ukraine.
The perpetrator denied russia’s armed aggression and tried to discredit the command of Ukraine’s Defence Forces.
He also spread disinformation regarding the socio-political situation in Ukraine, trying to cast a shadow the country’s international image.
The ‘expert’ used his YouTube channel and pages on popular social media to disseminate and spin fakes.
The blogger’s posts and video comments were often picked up by major russian TV channels and online publications, which created false stories and provocative publications based on them.
The overall audience of these media platforms was over half a million users.
russian propagandists also invited him to participate in TV broadcasts, for example, on the Zvezda channel, which belongs to the russian MoD.
According to the investigation, the blogger was a regular participant in talk shows on Medvedchuk’s TV channels even before the start of the full-scale war.
There, he was imposing pro-kremlin narratives on the viewers regarding the internal situation in Ukraine and our foreign policy.
During the searches of the suspect’s home, the SSU found computers and mobile phones with evidence of his subversive activities.
The SSU has served him a notice of suspicion under Article 436-2.2, 436-2.3 of the CCU (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).
The court is to decide on a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing. The suspect faces up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
