SSU declares pastor suspect: as FSB agent he recruited his sons to spy on AFU units
The SSU Military Counterintelligence has exposed an FSB agent network that operated in Donetsk and Ternopil regions.
The head of the enemy cell was a pastor of a Protestant church. In the summer of 2023, he left Ukraine for the EU as a father of many children. From there he moved to russia and began working for the FSB.
The traitor recruited his two adult sons to work for the aggressor state.
One of them is a serviceman in one of the combat brigades who was detained by the SSU in April 2024. He was trying to pass on to the FSB the locations of firing positions and fortifications of Ukraine’s Defence Forces.
The second son was detained recently in Ternopil region, where he was reconnoitering air defence positions and locations of training centres of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The SSU uncovered him at an early stage, when he was preparing a report for the FSB.
The investigation established that the father of the spotters had been in direct contact with Sergei Karnaukhov, a russian propagandist and undercover FSB officer.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified the pastor of suspicion in absentia under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
He is hiding in russia, efforts are underway to bring him to justice.
The criminal actions of his sons are classified under Article 114-2.2, 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or location of the AFU, committed under martial law).
Both suspects are in custody, facing 8 to 12 years in prison.
The operations were carried out under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office and Ternopil Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region.
