SSU serves notice of suspicion to sanctioned Metropolitan of UOC (mp) from Zaporizhzhia responsible for inciting religious hatred
The SSU has documented crimes committed by the head of the Zaporizhia diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (mp), Metropolitan Luke (Andrii Kovalenko). The cleric is suspected of inciting religious hatred in Ukraine.
Following the investigation, the Metropolitan publicly expressed his disrespectful attitude towards parishioners of other faiths.
He repeatedly ‘mentioned’ this during his communication with parishioners and church liturgies.
The cleric also posted provocative posts on his personal telegram channel that insulted the religious feelings of people of other faiths.
In this way, he undermined the socio-political situation in the frontline region in favour of the aggressor country.
The SSU investigation confirmed the facts of the cleric's subversive activities against the state security of Ukraine.
On the basis of the evidence gathered, he was served a notice of suspicion under Article 161-2 of the CCU (violation of equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, region, religious beliefs and other grounds).
The issue of choosing a type of detention is being decided. The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The offender faces imprisonment.
Recall that in December 2022 the National Security and Defence Council imposed personal sanctions against this metropolitan.
The operation was conducted by the SSU under the supervision of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
