SSU serves suspicion notices to two militants, including scout who fought near Kupiansk

The SSU has collected evidence against another two traitors who fought against Ukraine’s Defence Forces on the eastern front.

After the aggressor state launched its full-scale invasion, they voluntarily joined russia’s Southern military district.

During fierce battles near Kupiansk in autumn 2023, one of the militants, a scout of a russian assault unit, was taken prisoner. The rest of the servicemen of his unit – 30 soldiers – were killed in combat with Ukrainian defenders.

Another militant was detained during fighting near Avdiivka.

According to the investigation, the captured enemy scout is a native of Melitopol who had been living in russia for over 12 years.

In October 2023, he enlisted to russian occupation groupings and underwent combat training at a facility near Kursk.

After the course, he was included in an assault group and sent to the front line in Kharkiv region.

Another traitor is a resident of Ivano-Frankivsk oblast, Ukraine, who was involved in a human trafficking case in 2018.

Then, to evade punishment, he moved to the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region, where later joined the militants.

In September 2022, the man was appointed a grenade launcher in russia’s 114th separate motorized rifle brigade and sent to storm Ukrainian positions near Avdiivka.

SSU investigators have notified both perpetrators of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 260.2 (creation of unlawful armed groups or participation in their activities).

The criminal actions of the suspect from Prykarpattia are also qualified as collaboration and participation in a terrorist organization.

The traitors are in custody and face life imprisonment.
