SSU declares Chernihiv deputy mayor suspect in case on large-scale corruption
The SSU has collected evidence and notified Chernihiv’s deputy mayor of suspicion of large-scale corruption.
According to the investigation, the official organized a scheme to misappropriate budget funds for purchase of a new transformer for a local thermal power plant, damaged by a russian strike in the spring of 2022.
In July 2022, the equipment was purchased at a price that was twice the market price. This resulted in losses to the state of over UAH 30 mln (USD 804,000).
This amount of damage was confirmed by the SSU-initiated forensic commodity and economic examinations conducted by Kyiv Scientific and Research Institute of Forensic Examinations.
To implement the scheme, the offender ‘coordinated’ his criminal actions with the management of the supplier company.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators served the official a notice of suspicion under Article 364.2 of the CCU (abuse of power or official position).
The court has chosen a measure of restraint for the suspect – custody with an alternative bail of UAH 32 mln.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the offence. The suspect is facing up to 6 years in prison.
The operation and investigation were carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
