SSU counters Russia’s hybrid aggression: dozens of agent networks and informational subversion centers exposed in 2021 (video)

The SSU is ensuring an integrated response to protect Ukrainian statehood and counteract to Russia’s hybrid aggression. Since the beginning of 2021, over 300 proceedings have been opened for encroachments on territorial integrity and attempts to seize power; over 260 criminals have been convicted.

The SSU has exposed dozens of agent networks of Russian special services. Following the instructions of their handlers, they carried out intelligence, informational and subversive activities against the state security of Ukraine.

The SSU operations led to 38 convictions for high treason and espionage.

In a large-scale special operation, the SSU dismantled an FSB intelligence network that operated in Kyiv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Zhytomyr and Chernihiv regions. The agents were preparing subversions; their targets included combat aircraft at one of the Ukrainian military airfields.

Among the items seized from the group were 3 kg of TNT with electric detonators and rocket propelled grenades.

Luhansk region:

The SSU detained a spy of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia. The foreigner arrived in the region to gather intelligence on JFO, location of units, as well as on the latest models of Ukrainian weapons and military equipment.

Over this period, the SSU averted attempts to commit a series of terrorist attacks and subversions near the border and in the JFO area.

Zakarpattia region:

The SSU averted an arson of a Consulate General of a neighboring country and a murder of a local public figure. The organizer was a native of Luhansk region recruited by Russian special services. The group attempted to commit an attack to destabilize the situation in the region and discredit Ukraine on international arena.

Donetsk and Luhansk regions:

The SSU prevented subversions near the demarcation line.

The Service exposed two large arms caches of subversive groups of LNR and DNR IAFs. The seized inventory included almost 40 kg of TNT, an arsenal of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines, as well as ammunition for large-caliber machine guns and anti-aircraft weapons.

Moreover, over 30 Internet agents of Russian special services were brought to criminal responsibility. The perpetrators were spreading calls to change the state borders of Ukraine and seize power.

Over 1,000 Internet communities and accounts used by enemy agents have been shut down.

The SSU operations also resulted in banning the entry to Ukraine for 83 foreigners involved in anti-Ukrainian propaganda.

In February, the SSU shut down a large-scale GRU agent network. The agents used Telegram channels to spread publications to raise panic and create social tension in several regions of Ukraine.

The SSU is acting upon the uncovered facts of Russia’s hybrid aggression to bring to justice all the individuals involved in crimes against state security of Ukraine.
