SSU holds counterterrorism drills at airport to practice responding to aircraft hijacking (video)
The SSU conducted counterterrorism exercise at the Antonov International Airport in Kyiv region. The SSU special purpose teams neutralized the ‘terrorists’ who hijacked a plane with passengers and captured part of the airport.
The training was carried out in close to real life conditions.
The Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police, the National Guard and the State Emergency Service took part in the exercise.
According to the scenario, terrorists take hostages on the plane and demand the landing of the aircraft. At the same time, their accomplices seize the airport traffic control tower and state their demands.
After implementing the established procedure, the Operational Staff makes a decision to start the assault phase. Special purpose teams neutralize ‘terrorists’ and release ‘hostages’.
The purpose of the drills was to improve interagency cooperation in responding to and preventing terrorist attacks, including at strategic critical infrastructure facilities.
The event was held by the CT Center at the SSU and the Coordination Group of the CT Center in Kyiv and Kyiv region.
