SSU carries out security measures at Mukachevo diocese of moscow patriarchate’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church
The SSU is conducting counterintelligence (security) measures on the territory of one of the monasteries of Mukachevo diocese of the UOC-MP in Zakarpattia region.
The measures are carried out jointly with the Patrol Police Office and Uzhhorod Zonal Department of the Military Law Enforcement Service as part of the SSU’s systemic efforts to counter subversive activities of russian special services in Ukraine.
In particular, given russia’s armed aggression, the risks of committing crimes against security of citizens, state sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine are increasing.
With the direct participation of the church representatives, law enforcement officers are:
- inspecting the territory and premises of the monastery to identify items prohibited for circulation;
- checking persons in the monastery regarding their involvement in unlawful activities to the detriment of Ukraine’s state sovereignty.
All actions are taken in accordance with the law and are carried out to:
- verify information on intentions to use the diocese as a center of the ‘russian world’;
- prevent the use of the UOC-MP premises for hiding citizens of the aggressor state, storing prohibited items, etc.;
- protect the population from provocations and terrorist acts.
We emphasize that in its activity the SSU adheres to the principle of impartiality to any religious denomination and respects the right of every citizen to freedom of worldview and religion, as defined by the Constitution of Ukraine.
