Lviv region: SBU blocks corruption scheme at customs

The SBU blocked the corruption scheme organized by the officials of the Yavoriv customs post of the Lviv customs.

The perpetrators systematically extorted and received the illegal benefits from the entrepreneurs for assistance in unchecked clearance of goods, imported into Ukraine. In case of refusal, customs officers threatened the businessmen with simulated obstacles and delays in the registration process.

The SBU officers documented numerous cases of taking bribes at customs. Allegedly, since July, the state budget has suffered losses of UAH 2,7 m (USD 100,600) due to the corruption scheme.

Currently, two individuals are served a suspicion notice for taking a bribe.

The operation is ongoing to bring to justice all the customs officials involved in the illegal activities.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Main Directorate for Fighting Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the Lviv region Prosecutor's Office with the assistance of the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
