SSU ‘cracks’ russian agent sent by FSB for sabotage in western Ukraine: agent betrays his handler
The SSU has identified another officer of russian special services, who is taking an active part in the war against Ukraine.
This is a career officer of the FSB Directorate in Krasnoyarsk krai, russia.
This spy collected information on deployment and movement of military equipment and personnel of the Armed Forces and the National Guard of Ukraine, in particular the separate special purpose regiment Azov.
He was also ‘hunting’ for data on current and former SSU officers, the SSU’s staff and non-staff employees and agents as well as information on forms and methods of activities of the Ukrainian special service.
The enemy officer recruited Ukrainian citizens mainly in social networks.
The investigation established that in 2017 he had recruited a Kyiv resident and after several assignments had ‘put him on standby’ until 2022.
After russia launched its full-scale invasion, the agent was instructed by the FSB to arrive in Chernivtsi oblast.
There, he tried to identify transport channels of weapons supply to Ukraine and location of fuel depots.
Occupiers needed such intelligence to prepare a series of explosions on the railway facilities and at logistics warehouses.
However, the SSU Counterintelligence prevented this and as a result of a multi-stage special operation detained the enemy saboteur in Chernivtsi.
The traitor - a Ukrainian citizen - has already been sentenced to 16 years in prison. In the course of the investigation, the agent gave up his FSB handler. Basing on the SSU’s findings, the FSB employee has been notified of suspicion of espionage (Article 114.1 of the CCU).
The SSU Office in Chernivtsi region exposed the unlawful activity under the procedural supervision of Chernivtsi Region Prosecutor’s Office.
