SSU ‘cracks’ belarusian KGB officer, who will now spend 10 years behind bars
The SSU has collected evidence against an employee of the belarusian special service, who went to fight against Ukraine in the ranks of the russian private military company ‘Redut’ [redoubt].
As a member of the occupation forces, he took an active part in warfare against Ukrainian Defence Forces on Kharkiv and Kramatorsk directions.
His main mission was to collect intelligence on foreign weapons supplied to the AFU by Western partners.
The agent was also tasked to find out possible plans of involving russian PMCs in attempts to remove the regime of the self-proclaimed president Lukashenko from power.
Ukrainian defenders captured the enemy’s accomplice during a battle in Donetsk region in September 2022.
The captive tried to pose as an ‘ordinary’ militant and hide his affiliation to the belarusian KGB.
However, the SSU Military Counterintelligence ‘cracked’ the offender, who told the investigators about his assignments.
Based on the collected evidence, the court sentenced the belarusian to 10 years in prison.
According to the investigation, the person in question was a resident of Minsk oblast and was enrolled in the KGB’s 2nd anti-terrorist unit in December 2020 as an ‘intelligence officer’.
After the start of the full-scale invasion, he was instructed to conduct reconnaissance and subversive activities against Ukraine.
According to his cover story, the man was supposed to act as a foreign mercenary and pass the collected intelligence to Minsk through a liaison.
Last summer, he arrived at a russian PMC training camp and underwent operational and combat training under the guidance of serving officers of russian intelligence.
As part of the occupation grouping, the mercenary was transferred to the eastern front.
Based on the evidence collected by the SSU, the court found the accused guilty under the Article 447.4 of the CCU (mercenarism).
The SSU emphasizes the inevitability of punishment for crimes against Ukraine.
The SSU carried out the investigation under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
