SSU investigates DDOS-attacks on Ukrainian government: signs of involvement of hostile intelligence services detected

The SSU is investigating criminal proceedings on DDOS-attacks against Ukrainian banks and authorities. According to preliminary information, Russian special services may be involved.

This was stated at a briefing by the head of the SSU Cyber Security Department Illya Vityuk.

‘Within the criminal proceedings, together with the Prosecutor General’s Office we are investigating the fact of establishing of a criminal organization by foreign special services to interfere in computer, information and telecommunications systems of state authorities,’ Illya Vityuk stated.

According to the head of Cyber Security Department, it is too early to talk about identified perpetrators as all the circumstances of the crime are currently being investigated within the criminal proceedings opened by the SSU.

‘We see traces of involvement of foreign special services. In the current reality, the country that is interested in such blows to Ukraine’s image is Russia. However, this still needs to be confirmed,’ Illya Vityuk summed up.

During 2021, the SSU neutralized over 2,200 cyber-attacks against government authorities and critical infrastructure in Ukraine. The SSU, together with its partners on cyber defence, is working 24/7 to protect Ukrainian cyberspace and bring the offenders to justice.
