SSU and NABU expose bribe-taking judge in Odesa

The SSU jointly with the NABU have exposed a judge of one of Odesa district courts on corruption.

The official organized a scheme to receive bribes for passing ‘necessary’ court decisions.

The law enforcement agencies documented the judge ask for an illegal benefit from a local resident.

In exchange for the money, the bribe-taker ‘guaranteed’ the citizen a positive decision in a court case regarding debt obligations.

The SSU and the NABU documented that the judge had received the first part of the bribe (USD 4,000).

Criminal proceeding was opened under the Article 368.3 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official). Investigators will serve the judge a notice of suspicion shortly.

The investigation is ongoing.

The offender is facing up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
