SSU and SBI detain ex-commander of 155th brigade of the AFU who allowed desertion of subordinates

The Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigations, with the assistance of the Minister of Defence and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, apprehended the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, holding the position of commander, he did not inform the law enforcement agencies about a significant number of facts of unauthorized leaving of the place of service by the personnel, which happened during the training of the unit in the European Union, as well as during combat missions on the eastern front.

Currently, the law enforcement teams are checking information on possible corruption schemes in the brigade during the selection of soldiers for training abroad.

They are also checking information on possible schemes whereby soldiers could evade their duties in return for bribes.

The former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade is to be notified of suspicion under Article 426.4 of the CCU (inaction by military authorities, committed under martial law).

The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and identify other persons involved.

The operational and investigative measures are carried out by the SSU Military Counterintelligence jointly with the SBI under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Region and the Prosecutor General’s Office.
