SSU and NABU expose deputy head of Zaporizhzhia Region Council and his accomplices on bribery
The SSU jointly with the NABU have dismantled a large-scale corruption scheme involving the leadership of Zaporizhzhia Region Council.
The council’s deputy head, his assistant and a member of the council have been exposed on bribery.
According to the investigation, the officials tried to bribe the director of a regional medical institution.
In return, the head of the medical institution was to facilitate the winning of predetermined companies in medical procurement, as well as financial transactions by the said medical institution in the interests of financial institutions.
The law enforcement caught all three officials in the act, handing over the full amount of the illegal benefit.
Searches are underway at the suspects’ homes and offices.
The criminal proceeding was initiated under Article 369.4 of the CCU (offer, promise or giving of an unlawful benefit to an official). The exposed perpetrators will be served notices of suspicion shortly.
The investigation is ongoing. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
