SSU and NABU expose head of Odesa region district court on bribery
The Security Service of Ukraine jointly with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau have exposed the acting head of a district court in Odesa oblast who extorted money for a ‘correct’ court decision.
For the bribe, the official promised a local resident to secure a lawsuit and request documents in a civil case.
The law enforcers caught the court’s head ‘red-handed’: after receiving the bribe and making the ’promised’ decision in favour of the interested party.
The detained individual will be served a notice of suspicion under Article 368.3 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official).
The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is facing up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
