SSU and NABU detain member of Ternopil region council who demanded kickbacks for allocation of financial aid to wounded Ukrainian soldiers
The SSU Military Counterintelligence and the NABU have exposed a member of Ternopil Region Council, who is also the Chairman of the Permanent Budget Commission, on corruption.
According to the investigation, the official offered to assist a serviceman in allocating him financial assistance for his treatment. After the money was transferred to his bank card, the soldier was supposed to give half of the amount to the official.
The law enforcement agencies documented the offence and caught the suspect ‘red-handed’ when he got another bribe.
Criminal proceedings were opened under Article 368.3 of the CCU (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official). The perpetrator will be served a notice of suspicion; the court is to decide on a measure of restraint.
The investigation is ongoing. The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
