SSU and NABU detain members of Sumy region council who offered USD 100k bribe to city authorities
The SSU and the NABU have exposed two members of Sumy Region Council involved in corruption. They offered a bribe to the leadership of Sumy military administration.
In return for USD 100,000, the perpetrators wanted to lobby for the merger of several local medical institutions into one hospital and agree on the candidate to head it.
In this way, the council members intended to establish control over the distribution of budget funds for the newly created medical facility.
After the reorganization, they promised to share with the city authorities regular ‘percentages’ of the state funding for the new hospital.
The law enforcement caught both suspects ‘red-handed’ when they handed over the first part of the bribe, USD 50,000.
They will be served notices of suspicion under Article 369.4 of the CCU (offering, promising or giving an unlawful benefit to an official).
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
