SSU and NABU detain head of court in Kirovohrad region for corruption

The SSU together with the National Anti-Corruption Bureau have shut down a corrupt scheme in Oleksandrivskyi District Court of Kirovohrad Region.

The head of this court was exposed on receiving a bribe.

The corrupt official established a mechanism for offenders to ‘circumvent’ the law, which is why he himself came to the attention of the law enforcement.

The SSU documented the suspect red handed – when he received a bribe. The head of the court promised a citizen, who was awaiting trial for DUI, to help evade punishment if he paid money.

Now, the corrupt judge will be notified of suspicion under Article 369-2.3 of the CCU (abuse of influence, acceptance of an offer, promise, or obtaining an undue benefit for oneself or a third person for influencing the decision-making by a person authorized to perform the functions of the state or local self-government, combined with demanding such a benefit).

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances and persons involved.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in line with the procedure defined by law and established by a relevant court’s verdict.
