SSU and National Police dismantle another two mobilization evasion schemes
The SSU and the National Police have shut down another two schemes of mobilization evasion.
The organizers were detained in Kyiv and Vinnitsa region. These are a lawyer, an official of a Military Medical Commission, as well as a fraudster who posed as a Ukrainian volunteer.
For USD 6,000 to USD 10,000 they sold counterfeit documents to military-aged men, which they used to evade military service.
In Kyiv:
A 32-year-old Ukrainian citizen was detained for offering fake enrollment to one of Ukraine’s volunteer military formations.
In this way, his ‘clients’ could evade mobilization and cross the border unimpededly.
To talk to potential recruits, the individual posed as a military officer, although he had no relation to the Defence Forces.
After receiving the money, he disappeared without fulfilling his promises and continued looking for new ‘clients’.
The SSU detained the suspect ‘red-handed’ in a Kyiv cafe, when he was receiving a ‘payment’ for fake enrolment in a volunteer unit.
In Vinnytsia region:
The SSU apprehended a lawyer and a member of a local Military Medical Commission who sold counterfeit certificates of unfitness for service.
In both cases, the detained perpetrators were notified of suspicion (in accordance with the crimes committed) under four Articles of the CCU:
- 114-1.1 (obstruction of lawful activities of the AFU and other military formations);
- 332.3 (illegal transfer of persons across Ukraine’s state border, committed by an organized group or for mercenary purposes);
- 368.3 (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official);
- 366.1 (forgery in office).
The suspects face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operations were carried out jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office and Vinnytsia Region Prosecutor’s Office.
