SSU and National Police detain minor in Dnipro who set fire to Ukrainian military SUV
The SSU and the National Police have apprehended another enemy accomplice who was preparing new arson attacks in Dnipro on russia’s orders.
The adversary’s main targets were service vehicles of the Defence Forces involved in combat missions at the frontline.
The russian intelligence recruited a 16-year-old Dnipro resident to commit a series of arson attacks on military vehicles. The young man came to their attention when he was looking for easy money on Telegram channels.
At the end of July this year, a representative of a russian special service contacted him remotely and offered cooperation in exchange for quick payments.
On the occupiers’ instructions, the agent put on a balaclava and conducted reconnaissance near the parking lots of Ukrainian defenders at night.
The suspect identified three potential targets and took photos of them to get an approval from his russian handler.
In the nighttime, the perpetrator approached one of the military SUVs and set it on fire with a flammable mixture.
He filmed the burning on his phone camera to report to the aggressor.
The russians planned to use the video for info- and psyops about the supposed ‘presence of an anti-Ukrainian underground’ in the city.
The law enforcement documented the sabotage and detained the suspect.
During the search of his home, a mobile phone and clothes with evidence of the crime were seized.
The SSU served the detained individual a notice of suspicion under Article 114-1.1 of the CCU (obstruction of the AFU’s lawful activities).
A round-the-clock house arrest was chosen as a measure of restraint. Despite the suspect’s young age, he faces up to 8 years in prison.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
