SSU and National Police prevent murder of volunteer family from Cherkasy region

The SSU and the National Police have thwarted an attempted murder of a family of volunteers in Cherkasy region. These are the head of a charity foundation that helps Ukraine’s Defense Forces and her husband, a demobilized Armed Forces soldier who was seriously wounded on the front line.

As a result of a special operation, the law enforcement neutralized a criminal group that tried to blow up the volunteers right in their home with improvised explosive devices.

According to the investigation, the motive for the attempt was the victims’ refusal to pay a fictitious debt for repairs in their house.

To commit the crime, the perpetrators prepared 4 improvised explosive devices, equipped with gunpowder, nuts and screws and ignition cords.

They also planned to throw explosives into the bedroom where the volunteers were supposed to rest.

The SSU uncovered the criminal group at an early stage and detained two of its members when they were preparing to break into the victims’ home.

During the searches, the IEDs, components for making explosives and mobile phones with evidence of the crime were seized.

The two detained individuals have been notified of suspicion under Articles 15.3, 115.2 of the CCU (premeditated murder, committed by a group). Their accomplice is also to be served a notice of suspicion.

The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The special operation was carried out by the SSU Cherkasy Office jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Cherkasy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
