SSU and National Police detain 5 arsonists who carried out FSB tasks in Kyiv and Volyn regions

The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have neutralized another two groups of arsonists who were acting on russia’s orders in Kyiv and Volyn regions. The targets of the attacks were vehicles of the Defence Forces and relay cabinets on Ukrainian railways.

For arson attacks in Kyiv region, the occupiers remotely recruited a 22-year-old local contract soldier.

He involved two of his unemployed acquaintances in the sabotage, who hoped for quick earnings for the cooperation with the enemy.

They set fire to two relay cabinets on railway lines regulating the movement of trains through Kyiv region.

To do that, the perpetrators purchased a flammable mixture and a screwdriver, which they used to break the doors of the cabinets, and then poured petrol on the equipment.

Another two arsonists were apprehended in Volyn region when they set fire to an AFU vehicle undergoing maintenance after combat missions at the front.

The perpetrators are an 18-year-old student at a local vocational school and his 15-year-old accomplice.

During the searches, mobile phones with evidence of communication with the enemy and the clothes in which they had committed the arsons were seized.

The detainees were notified of suspicion (in accordance with the crimes committed) under the Articles of the CCU:

  • 28.2, 113.2 (sabotage, committed by prior conspiracy, by a group, under martial law);
  • 114-1.1 (obstruction of lawful activities of the AFU, during a special period);
  • 194.2 (intentional destruction or damage to property by arson).

The suspects face 10 years in prison to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operations were carried out by the SSU Offices in Kyiv and Kyiv region and in Volyn region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office and Volyn Region Prosecutor’s Office.
