SSU and National Police detain FSB agent preparing terrorist attack in southern Ukraine on russia’s order
The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police foiled another attempt by russia to carry out a terrorist attack in Ukraine. As a result of a special operation in Odesa, the SSU detained an enemy agent who was preparing to detonate an improvised explosive device.
The terrorist is a 20-year-old drug addict from Odesa region who was recruited by russia’s federal security service on a Telegram channel offering ‘easy money’.
Following his handler’s instructions, the asset purchased components to make an IED and disguise it as a fire extinguisher.
He was to leave the bomb at the address he expected from the occupiers. After that, the ruscists planned to detonate the IED by calling a phone that was connected to it.
Before carrying out the attack, the russian handler gave the agent to a ‘test’ task: to set fire to battery and relay cabinets on a strategic railway line in Odesa oblast.
The SSU and National Police uncovered the traitor at an early stage, fully documented his sabotage activities and detained him at his home when he was trying to get rid of the material evidence.
Components for the bomb, including chemicals and a fire extinguisher with a mobile phone, were seized during searches.
SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Articles 15.2, 113.2 of the CCU (attempted sabotage, under martial law).
It is planned to additionally qualify his crime under Articles 14.1, 258.2 of the CCU – preparation for a terrorist act.
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
