SSU and National Police apprehend russian agent who, after car arsons in Kyiv, prepared to assassinate Ukrainian officer
The SSU and the National Police have detained an agent of russian intelligence who was preparing an assassination attempt on a serviceman of one of the units of Ukraine’s Defense Forces in Kyiv.
To test the asset, the enemy first gave him two tasks – to set fire to cars of Ukrainian defenders.
After that, the agent was instructed to install video surveillance to watch a Ukrainian officer. Further, the russians planned to assassinate him.
The SSU and the National Police uncovered the enemy plans at an early stage and detained the suspect when he was preparing to conduct additional reconnaissance near the ‘target’ and had not yet installed the camera.
The perpetrator is a 20-year-old Kyiv resident.
During the searches, the SSU seized the flammable mixture he used for arson and a cell phone with evidence of the crimes.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified the detained individual of suspicion under Article 114-1 of the CCU (obstructing the lawful activities of the AFU and other military formations during a special period).
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 8 years in prison.
The special operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
